Occupational Therapist treat disable,m ill, or injured residents with special equipment and the therapeutic use of daily activities. They help residents improve, regain, and develop skills needed for day to day life and work. They may dprovide long-term resident care and acute resident care.
J ob deescription :
The Ocupational Therapist (OTR)is responsible for the evaluation and treatments of residents who demonstrate disorders or neurological deficit, weakness and paralysis. Evaluation and treatment will only be conducted after a written order is received from the physician.
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the screening of residents of the facility as as follow :
New facility residents within 24 hours of admission
Long term residents, upon receipt of a "Significant change form"
And / or upon referral from nursing
The OTR is responsible for he completion of all neccessary documentation , which includes but not limited to the following items :
All documentation will be co-sih=gned by the OTR
Initial evaluation forms
Weekly progress notes
Monthly Recertification Forms
Discharge Summary
All other required forms as designed by the facility and Regional Manager
The OTR is responsible for attending all requires facility meetings and in-services, including Medicare meetings, resident staffing, family meetings and care plans
The OTR will in cooperation with the Program Manager and the Regional Manager, develop programs appropriate to the needs of the residents in the facility to assist them in achieving their highest feasible level of functioning
The OTR will assist the facility in meeting the standards neccessary to obtain state,federal and other appropriate certification
The OTR will employ and follow all appropriate facility infection control policies and will respect and follow OBRA Resident's Rights Guidelines
The OTR is responsible for the appropriate scheduling of residents on caseload in addition to all required in-services and meetings.
The OTR will always present her / himself in a professional manner including professional conduct, professional communication and appripriate dress while in the facility
The OTR will perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager and facility
The Occupational Therapist will report to the Program Manager and Regional Manager who is responsible for overseeing direct clinical skills, documentation skills and the compliance to all professional standards
Physical Demands
The Therapist is required to perform a variety of duties relative to the job. The performance of theses activities would place the job of Occupational Therapist (OTR) into moderate heavy category of work based upon
Lifting : The Therapist is required to perform transfer of residents to and from a varirty of surfaces including bed, chair and commode. Transfer may require maximal assist with residents weighing greater than 100lbs. . This activity may be performed frequently basis. Occasionally, the therapist is required to lift supplies weighing up to 50lbs to chest level and 10lbs to overhead.
Push / Pull : The Occupational Therapist (OTR) is occasionally required to push / pull residents weighing up to 300lbs in wheelchair distance up to 200 yards. Tgis activity may be performed frequently for shorter distances.
Work Environment : The Occupational Therapist (OTR) is required to work in a variety of environmental conditions
Specific educational / Vocational Requirements :
Must be able to read, write and understand English Language
Must attend a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education programs provided by the facility to maintain certification
Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy state licensure
Extensive knowledge of departmenr processes
Knowledge of therapeutic techniques
