• Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients\n
• Contact practitioner to obtain orders\n
• Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner\n
• Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriate\n
• Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate\n
• Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call\n
• Collect and record data for statistical reporting on the CQI\n
• Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated\n
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients' emotional or physical condition\n
• Provide patient education on topics such as correctional facility's policies and discharge planning\n
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms\n
• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner\n
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required\n
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction / overdose\n
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition\n
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the correctional institutional setting\n
• Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisor\n
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents\n
• Present / participate in in-service education sessions\n
• Perform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standards\n
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agencies\n
• Oversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under the RN scope of practice\n
• May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities\n
• May be asked to act as a back-up to the H.S.A / Site Manager\n
• May be asked to train new hires and coworkers\n
• Any and all other duties as assigned\n\nQualifications\n\nREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : \n
• Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standing\n
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training\n
• Excellent documentation skills\n
• Knowledge of the RN scope of practice
