Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute setting, requiring current IL RN licensure and specialty certifications.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in an acute care hospital Labor & Delivery unit
  • Unit includes 4 L&D beds, 1 OR suite, 4 triage beds, and 6 postpartum beds
  • Patient population includes low and high-risk OB patients and stable newborns at least 36 weeks gestation
  • Unit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines
  • Central fetal, newborn, and adult monitoring with Philips, EPIC, and OBIX systems
  • Utilizes equipment such as Neopuff, heated high flow nasal cannula, and CPAP for newborns
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7 : 00 pm – 7 : 30 am
  • Three weekend shifts required within each 6-week schedule
  • Holiday rotation may apply if assignment overlaps holidays
  • Floating required to other units for RN support duties and sitter responsibilities
  • No regular on-call, but may be placed on standby during low census
  • Unit-specific orientation provided for 2-3 days
  • Care for laboring and postpartum women, manage newborn stabilization, and circulate C-sections
  • Support from charge nurses, house supervisors, and certified OB techs who act as surgical scrub techs
  • OB physician on-call 24 / 7, typically present during active labor; newborn pediatrician also on-call 24 / 7
  • Hospital provides scrubs for use in the OR; otherwise, nurse choice of attire
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this assignment
  • Candidates living within 50 miles will be offered local rates
  • Holiday shifts may be required based on unit needs
  • Negative drug screen required before employment
  • First-time travelers are not excluded from consideration

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 1 year recent Labor & Delivery experience
  • Current certifications : BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP, and C-EFM required
  • Experience stabilizing newborns and circulating for C-sections required
  • Must be able to titrate Pitocin and Magnesium drips
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR preferred
  • Ability to read fetal heart rate strips using central monitoring
