Job description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing compassionate and essential support to patients in a perioperative setting. As an Assistant Patient Care Technician, you will work under the guidance of licensed nurses to deliver direct patient care that promotes safety and comfort.

General Summary

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or shift manager, you will assist with vital patient care tasks, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes.
  • Perform basic care duties such as monitoring vital signs, conducting glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and enhance their overall experience.
  • Accurately document all care activities to support clinical decision-making and team communication.
  • Effectively communicate relevant patient information to healthcare team members to improve outcomes and quality of care.

Education

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification and Training

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a Patient Care Assistant Academy is required for training. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
