The Robotics & Controls Intern will join the wider Robotics & Controls team. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on development of algorithms and production level software that live at the heart of a complex robotic surgical system for medical applications. We work in a variety of exciting robotic functions including but not limited to kinematic and dynamic analysis, motion generation, artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML), control algorithms, system response characterization, performance and detailed software development.
This position start date is on Summer 2026 and will end by December 2026.
Core Job Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and test AI / ML models, and control algorithms for sophisticated robotic systems.
Actively participate in algorithmic, control discussion, and code reviews
Develop C++ software for safety critical applications
Required Knowledge and Skills
General understanding of robot forward and inverse kinematics and dynamics, motion trajectories and path planning.
General understanding of artificial intelligence techniques including machine learning models, especially transformer, both training and inference.
Knowledge of robotics manipulation and computer vision.
Excellent communication and documentation
Able to work in the US and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., F1, H1-B status)
Currently enrolled in an accredited University or College PhD program in robotics, computer science, or artificial intelligence, throughout the entire duration of the internship. Must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.8 or higher and be available to work the hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills, Education, And Experience
Familiarity working with large codebases and have a good understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures and algorithms, programming in UNIX environments)
Strong programming experience in Python and / or Matlab. Familiarity with C++ is expected
The expected pay range for this position is between $31.00 per hour and $59.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and / or experience. Co-Ops / Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits : up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
