POSITION SUMMARY : Under the general direction of the Education Director, the Assistant Education Director provides administrative support and assists the Education Director with overseeing the programs and operations of the Education Division.

CONTACTS :
Immediate peers and supervisor, peers and managers in other divisions / departments, Executives, Board of Directors, Tribal members and employees, students, parents, families, community groups, leaders, pre-birth to higher educational institutions, social services personnel, Tribal and outside agencies, customers, vendors / service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
The position is sedentary, primarily sitting, lifting a maximum of 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of near vision and typing; frequent sitting; use of midrange vision, occasional standing, walking, carrying, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, reaching, manual handling; use of hearing, smelling, far vision, depth perception, color / field of vision, travel and bending. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, extreme cold, and noise. Potential hazards include constant computer use, occasional travel by car and plane, moving mechanic parts, electric shock, chemicals, infectious exposure, client contact, and equipment. Protective equipment / clothing needed to perform the job includes a hazard kit with protective gloves, mask, etc., and personal protective equipment.
REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Administration, or related field required.
Experience : Minimum of 3 years of program and fiscal management and supervisory experience required in addition to education requirement. Experience with state and federal grants and contracts preferred. Minimum of 2 years working in an education field setting preferred.
Certification / License : Must have a valid driver’s license and be insured by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests. First Aid and CPR Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Strategic planning, project management, and administration skills required. Must have diverse, advanced knowledge related to the administration of education programs. Must be an analytical thinker with the ability to conduct trend analyses, assess feasibility, analyze data and report findings. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is preferred. Must have financial management skills with the ability to effectively manage budgets and make financial projections. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to draft well-organized, error-free, grammatically correct, clear and concise documents and reports. Excellent interpersonal, public speaking skills, and facilitation skills are a must. Must have conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm. Demonstrated knowledge in grant administration required. Ability to research, interpret, and remain in compliance with laws, legal codes, government regulations, and executive orders is a must. Knowledge of NASIS (Native American Student Information System) preferred. Must have excellent organizational skills and a high attention to detail. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines is required. Must have advanced leadership and team building skills with demonstrated experience in supervising staff. Must have the ability to operate and troubleshoot general office equipment and be computer proficient with knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Must be self-reliant, flexible, adaptable, and able to work extended hours when needed. Must know the Family Educational Rights and Privacy act and maintain strict confidentiality. Native American preferred.
