Revenue Accounting Specialist

Job Summary
Position is responsible for the revenue accounting including appropriate application of the ASC 606 guidance across all revenue streams at Shentel. This role requires the ability to exercise significant judgment in applying the five-step model to complex, multi-element contracts. This position works cross-functionally to provide data-informed financial insights that directly impact our public company disclosures, requiring strong analytical capabilities and a deep technical understanding of US GAAP.
Duties and Responsibilities
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required; CPA is strongly preferred. 3-5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with a minimum of 2 years of ASC 606 revenue recognition experience. Demonstrated experience in a publicly traded company is required, including working knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls. Experience in the telecommunications, fiber infrastructure, or utilities sector, particularly dealing with bundled services, subscription models, and long-term contracts, is highly preferred. Proven ability to interpret complex legal / sales contracts and accurately apply technical accounting standards (ASC 606) to determine revenue recognition treatment. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (i.e. complex formulas, pivot tables, data modeling) is required. Strong proficiency with large-scale ERP systems (i.e. Oracle, SAP, NetSuite), with direct experience in Oracle Fusion preferred.
Other Skills and Competencies
Deep, demonstrable technical knowledge of US GAAP, specifically ASC 606, is required. Experience with advanced reporting and visualization tools (i.e. Oracle Business Intelligence, Tableau, Alteryx) is a plus. Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a strong bias for accuracy and detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex accounting issues to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines in a dynamic public company reporting cycle.
