Engine Lathes, Milling Machines, and Grinders

Basic Function :

Operates manual machine tools to produce components used in the manufacture or repair of hydraulic cylinders, or machined components for contract customers.

Typical Duties :

• Reads and interprets engineering drawings to plan and set-up all manual machine tools. Set-up includes selecting proper tooling and fixtures.
• Uses all types of measuring and gauging tools or instruments to verify accuracy of set-up prior to start of production run.
• Adjusts machine, tools, or fixture to insure machined parts conform to engineering drawings or other specifications. Uses typical machinist hand-tools.
• Uses measuring and gauging tools to determine usability of parts for repair orders.
• Repair defective parts or make replacement parts when repairs are not practical.
• Produces quantity of parts in accordance with order or supervisor’s instructions.
• Performs manual operations on parts, such as de-burring, cleaning tapped holes, and removing excess oils or coolant, before moving them to the next work center or holding area.
