Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site (Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week)

Our staffing firm is seeking a Laboratory Technician on behalf of a well-run government research laboratory specializing in emergent materials and advanced processing technologies. This position will support a team conducting cutting-edge research in materials development and scale-up for critical material production. The selected candidate will play a key role in setting up laboratory facilities, performing experimental work, and maintaining research equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and set up laboratory facilities, including connecting equipment to ventilation, electrical power (up to 480V), and water systems.
Relocate and organize laboratory casework and other equipment to optimize workspace functionality.
Conduct routine experimental operations under established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Monitor, record, and analyze experimental data, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Assist scientific staff in preparing technical reports and documentation.
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of laboratory work, ensuring compliance with research protocols.
Collaborate closely with research and development personnel to support project timelines and deliverables.
Ensure all laboratory activities meet safety, security, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related technical or scientific field (e.g., Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or Applied Science).
1–3 years of hands-on experience in an industrial or research laboratory environment.
Working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and procedures.
Ability to assemble and connect mechanical, electrical (480V or less), and ventilation systems safely and effectively.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent technical writing and data documentation abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software tools.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in experimental work.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving research environment.
Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, such as moving laboratory equipment and materials.

Additional Information:

The work will be performed on-site at the client’s Lemont, IL research facility.
The position requires compliance with all government property, security, and computer protection policies.
Weekly timesheets and work reports will be submitted to the supervising research group leader.
