Summary
Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM) is dedicated to ending poverty and homelessness through innovation, collaboration, and equity-driven solutions. GSM partners with businesses, government, faith communities, and nonprofit organizations to design long-term strategies that empower families and break cycles of poverty. The Executive Director is the chief executive of GSM, working in partnership with the Board of Directors to advance the mission, steward a $3.0M operating budget, and lead a professional staff of approximately 25. This role emphasizes strategic leadership, measurable impact, and inclusive community engagement.
Key ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Leadership & Strategy
- Provide visionary and adaptive leadership to ensure all programs and services achieve measurable outcomes aligned with GSM’s mission.
- Anticipate community needs, identify opportunities, and develop innovative responses in collaboration with staff and the Board of Directors.
- Foster a culture of learning, professional growth, accountability, and equity across the organization.
- Lead ongoing strategic planning processes and align staff efforts with long- and short-term goals approved by the Board.
- Monitor organizational performance against objectives, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Oversee the development and approval of the annual budget and ensure responsible financial management.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
Serve as the primary ambassador for GSM, maintaining strong relationships with community partners, funders, policymakers, and constituents.Actively participate in collaborative planning initiatives and represent GSM on community task forces, committees, and boards.Communicate GSM’s vision, mission, and impact effectively to a wide range of audiences.Board Relations
Collaborate with the Board President to plan agendas, provide background materials, and ensure effective meetings.Support board recruitment, orientation, and development to strengthen governance capacity.Maintain timely, transparent communication with the Board of Directors.Fund Development & Advancement
Lead fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Board and staff, cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations.Oversee annual campaigns, grant applications, and donor engagement strategies.Ensure clear, consistent communication with contributors and the community to build trust and sustain support.Staff Leadership & Development
Supervise and mentor the Leadership Team, including directors overseeing Housing, Circles, Finance, Advancement, Faith in Youth Partnership, and Housing Development.Ensure equitable, consistent, and legally compliant hiring, training, performance management, and professional development.Promote a collaborative and inclusive culture where staff thrive and contribute their best work.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, public administration, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent lived / professional experience).Minimum of five years of nonprofit leadership experience, including program management, staff supervision, and board relations.Strong understanding of nonprofit fiscal management, fund development, and community partnership building.Demonstrated ability to lead with integrity, vision, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.Proven record of success in fundraising and cultivating diverse revenue streams.Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and interpersonal engagement.Strategic thinker with the ability to manage complexity, adapt to change, and drive measurable results.Demonstrate spiritual maturity in the Christian faith which finds its expression in social justice and love for people who are in need and concern for helping the community. Must be faithfully involved in a church community.Desired Attributes
