Responsibilities Acute care pediatric unit with shared beds for general pediatrics and hematology / oncology patients Common patient types include medical / surgical cases such as hyperbilirubinemia, neuro, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and orthopedic conditions Nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 and patient care techs (PCTs) at a ratio of 1 : 8-10 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730) with every other weekend requirement (Fri / Sat for nights) Level 1 trauma center with floating required to other pediatric units or mom / baby, but not to ICUs unless experienced and never to chemo patients Care for monitored patients with oversight from a pediatric monitor tech Uses Epic charting system (EMR) Heated high-flow and BiPAP equipment managed according to set parameters Charge RN and pediatric crisis nurse available 24 / 7 along with administrative supervisor support Unit offers 22 beds for general pediatrics and 10 for pediatric hematology / oncology, with the flexibility to adjust based on census Hospitalists in-house until midnight and 24 / 7 resident coverage Standard dress code allows any pediatric-appropriate scrub tops and solid color scrub pants, with options for a jacket or long sleeves underneath Unit / department-specific orientation is provided, typically consisting of 2 shifts with extensions possible if needed Holiday coverage required unless otherwise discussed and approved during interview Requirements Active Illinois RN license or proof that application is in process Minimum 2 years of pediatric acute care RN experience required Current BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required Ability to pass a drug screen for all panels Experience using Epic EMR strongly preferred Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-616214.
