City Of Portland - Parks Maintainer
Join our team of professional park staff to care for our 67 parks, 30 playgrounds, over 20,000 street trees, 11 community gardens, dozens of flower beds, 50+ miles of trails, 39 athletic fields and various winter recreation areas. Help make our parks, trails and open spaces a great place our Portland community can enjoy. This Parks Maintainer position is responsible for the general maintenance of parks, trails and open spaces. Work consists of mowing, trimming, painting, trash removal, planting, weeding, tree planting and park and trail maintenance, and other related physically demanding tasks. Operates grounds maintenance equipment in the care of parks and open spaces including, but not limited to, mowers, tractors and sidewalk plows.
Requirements :
Thorough knowledge and experience with the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of mowing and park equipment, ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely. Must have the ability to work well in a team and individual setting. Flexibility and willingness to work mandatory overtime during the winter; this may include weekends and holidays. Good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; Demonstrate great customer service and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public.
Training desired :
CPR and First Aid certification Chainsaw safety certification Completion of OSHA approved work zone safety. Candidates with a valid Class B Maine Drivers License in good standing (or have the ability to obtain it) will receive an additional $1.50 Stipend. Also, must pass a federally mandated drug test at time of obtaining a Class B License Must have and maintain a good driving record
Necessary requirements :
Maine Certified Landscape Professional and a State of Maine Commercial Pesticide Applicators License with category 3A and 6B (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment date). Must undergo a pre-employment physical assessment.
Expected Hours / Schedule :
This is a 40 hour per week position, expected to work 6 : 00am - 2 : 00pm five days a week.

Salary and Benefits :
This is a union position - Labor & Trades (Grade 18) - Pay range starting at $22.67 / hour, plus $1.00 / hour additional stipend.
