Basic Function :

Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Engagement, California Lutheran University's Assistant Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars is responsible for supporting international student advising and regulatory support, in addition to leading the educational programming for the OISS in support of the Center for Global Engagement's campus internationalization initiatives.

Representative Duties :

  • Assist in the collection, security, maintenance, updating and reporting of data related to international students in accordance with Homeland Security, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Department of State E
  • Serve as lead advisor for F-1 and J-1 student and ensure advising excellence in the areas of immigration, student outreach, and advocacy E
  • Serve as backup advisor for J-1 scholars and H1-B employment advising E
  • Manage in-bound J-1 exchange student program (e.g., selection, advising, partner liaison, etc.) E
  • Assist the Senior Director of Global Engagement in coordinating emergency response efforts related to international and exchange students, including liaising with campus partners, legal counsel, and international insurance providers to ensure timely and effective support during critical incidents.
  • Implement and / or supervise and assist efforts in OISS educational, cultural, social, and leadership development programming for international students E
  • Oversee the development and implementation of orientation programs, including the creation of online platforms, to strengthen alignment with traditional undergraduate and graduate orientation programs E
  • Create, design, implement, and assess strategic marketing / outreach for the Office of International Students and Scholars (e.g., website, social media, weekly update, etc.) E
  • Lead collaborative efforts with on- and off-campus entities (e.g., Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, immigration lawyers, etc.) to offer an integrated experience that helps international students navigate the university and US culture (e.g., workshops, webinars, etc.) E
  • Provide lead advisor responsibilities for United Students of the World and provide collaborative support for the Phi Beta Delta faculty / staff global engagement organization E
  • Lead collaboration with internal and external partners for the implementation, maintenance and development of the software management system for OISS operations (e.g., Terra Dotta) and related integration elements with Cal Lutheran platforms (e.g., Ellucian) E
  • Supervise the CGE student Peer Mentors including recruitment, training, retention, and implementation of year-round engagement E
  • In consultation with the Senior Director of Global Engagement, implement a comprehensive approach for assessment of education programming / learning outcomes for OISS initiatives E
  • Support the Senior Director of Global Engagement with the assessment of student learning outcomes (using qualitative and quantitative measures) and data management (e.g., report generation, benchmark data, etc.) E
  • Maintain ethical and transparent fiscal responsibility of any assigned financial tasks E
  • Represent Cal Lutheran at relevant professional conferences or associations, and serve on university and national committees as appropriate E
  • Collaborate on initiatives to advance internationalization, including through partnerships with the Office of Education Abroad and International Admission. E
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested E

  • Manage applicant files for international / exchange students using electronic database
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others in a team setting
  • Deliver effective presentations to various-sized group
  • Organize events for students, faculty, staff, and community that promote university-sponsored global engagement programs
  • Develop promotional materials for International Students and Scholars programs
  • Work in various communication applications such as InDesign, Canva, Photoshop, MailChimp, Flickr, Hootsuite, etc.
  • Operate a computer, copier, fax, camera, and other equipment as assigned
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Any Combination equivalent to : A Master's degree in a field directly relevant to international education with two (2) years of experience in international education programs or initiatives in a college or university setting with two (2) years of F-1 immigration advising & Support and one (1) year of J-1 advising & support experience

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Three-to-five years of international education programming experience

    Two-to-five years of J-1 advising and suppor

    Experience with PR / Marketing / Communication responsibilities, including social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

    Reading and speaking knowledge of at least one foreign language in addition to English

    Experience living or studying abroad

    Licenses and Other Requirements :

    Busy office environment with frequent interruptions; some evening and weekend hours required; some travel (domestic and international) is required

    Physical Abilities :

    Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; communicate clearly to exchange information in person and on the telephone; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects up to 15 lbs; position self to store and / or retrieve files

    Hiring Range $65,000-$75,000 DOE
