Day in the Life :
Specific security duties vary by post-assignment.
Flexible Scheduling- Choose from part-time options at any facility location. Offering several part-time shift options, consisting of four 6-hour days, four 8-hour days, or two 12-hour days per week. Openings are available on Morning, Day, Evening, and Night shifts; part-time hours 24 to 32 hours a week maximum, with possible shift covering holidays and weekends.
Career Growth- Part-time officers can transition to full-time as opportunities arise and transition across the state within different institution locations and internal promotional opportunities and growth.

Part-Time Benefits :
Once hired as a Correctional Officer, you will be required to attend six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). Training is held during specific timeframes throughout the year which will require you to stay overnight at a training facility, with weekends at home. June 2025 Training Location will be at Salemburg, NC. Room and board are provided for. Transportation can be available upon request.

We hire Correctional Officers at three levels, based on institution custody level and applicant qualification :
Correctional Officer I : High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Correctional Officer II : High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Correctional Officer III : High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
