We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Equipment Manager to join our team! The Senior Equipment Manager is a strategic enterprise leader responsible for optimizing the financial performance, lifecycle, compliance, and field readiness of a heavy civil equipment fleet of over 500 units. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role plays a critical part in aligning equipment operations with corporate financial objectives, ensuring audit readiness, and standardizing processes across all regions. The ideal candidate blends hands-on equipment expertise with financial acumen, leadership capability, and cross-functional partnership.

Responsibilities :

Fleet & Financial Performance :

  • Support the CFO by tracking, reporting, and forecasting the financial impact of equipment utilization, cost recovery, depreciation, and ROI.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet efficiency, operating costs, and cost-per-hour metrics.
  • Conduct cost-benefit and lease-versus-purchase analyses to guide capital investment decisions.
  • Lead efforts to align equipment management practices with audit standards and financial reporting requirements.

Enterprise Alignment & Process Standardization :

  • Standardize equipment-related processes, maintenance protocols, and reporting tools across all locations.
  • Develop and enforce enterprise-wide procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all equipment activity, including inspections, maintenance logs, cost tracking, and procurement.
  • Oversee procurement practices related to equipment acquisition and rental, ensuring alignment with financial goals and operational needs.
  • Leadership & Team Development :

  • In conjunction with Division Presidents, lead and support equipment managers across Colorado, Texas, and the Carolinas.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones and team meetings to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development within the equipment team.
  • Operations Partnership :

  • Collaborate closely with Regional Presidents and Equipment Operations Managers to anticipate equipment needs and align resources with project demands.
  • Support estimating and project management teams with accurate equipment rates, production insight, and lifecycle data.
  • Ensure proper equipment allocation and cost coding to projects to reflect true operational performance.
  • Maintenance, Compliance & Technology :

  • Lead adherence to preventive maintenance programs across the enterprise fleet.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations, including proper documentation and reporting.
  • Oversee implementation and optimization of GPS / telematics and fleet management software (e.g., HCSS, E360).
  • Identify training needs and partner with Safety and L&D to deliver effective equipment training programs.
  • Vendor & Asset Management :

  • Manage high-value vendor relationships; negotiate equipment purchase / rental agreements and monitor vendor performance.
  • Direct the company’s asset acquisition and disposal strategy, including capital planning and alignment with financial goals.
  • Ensure consistent procurement practices across regions with attention to cost control, compliance, and supplier accountability.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Finance, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 8+ years of heavy civil or industrial equipment management experience, including budget oversight and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of how equipment impacts company profitability.
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment, preventive maintenance, and fleet management software.
  • Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills across multiple departments and locations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and process improvement documentation.
  • Experience with DOT compliance and procurement operations is strongly preferred.
  • Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions :

  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to field sites and shops; travel required to divisional offices in Texas and North Carolina.
  • Must be comfortable in a construction environment and adept at cross-functional collaboration.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Office-based work with varying temperatures.
  • Occasional travel to jobsites with fluctuations in weather.
