Were looking for a Health Science Editor who shares that same passion for accuracy and claritysomeone who can bridge the gap between clinical science and accessible storytelling.

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Health Science Editor to refine and elevate research-based content for DrRuscio.com.

In this role, youll focus primarily on editingshaping drafts into polished, engaging, and scientifically accurate pieces that reflect our evidence-based approach and brand voice. Youll also support content development by gathering and organizing relevant studies to inform article briefs.

This position requires sharp editorial judgment, strong health-science literacy, and the ability to make complex topics understandable, precise, and actionable. Youll collaborate with the Content Manager, other editors, and scientific reviewers to ensure every article meets our standards for clarity, accuracy, and readability.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial

  • Edit long-form health content for clarity, accuracy, structure, and tone.
  • Ensure all writing aligns with the brand voice, readability standards, and current clinical evidence.
  • Strengthen story flow, reader engagement, and headline clarity.
  • Review clinician or writer drafts to refine narrative structure and ensure scientific integrity.
  • Fact-check and verify research claims, citations, and data as needed.

Research Support

  • Collect, evaluate, and synthesize research from peer-reviewed journals, credible health sources, and our internal clinician-organized database.
  • Summarize findings into organized, easy-to-reference research briefs aligned with provided outlines.
  • Refine complex research into structured, narrative-driven content suitable for a lay audience.
  • Collaboration & Optimization

  • Partner with the Content Manager and Scientific Reviewers to maintain efficient editorial workflows.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to writers and contribute to content planning discussions.
  • Learn and apply SEO best practices over timeno prior SEO experience required, but curiosity and willingness to develop this skill are preferred.

  • Ability to simplify complex research without oversimplifying the science.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate in a remote team environment.
  • Consistent attention to accuracy, nuance, and evidence quality.
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience editing written content for accuracy, clarity, and brand voice (preferably in health or science communication)
  • Proven ability to translate complex health topics into accurate, engaging, plain-language content
  • Background in health sciences, nutrition, integrative or functional medicine, or a related field
  • Familiarity with Google Drive and project management tools like Asana
  • Knowledge of the Ruscio Institutes approach to evidence-based functional medicine is a plus
  • Key Measures of Success

    By the end of the first month, the Health Science Editor should :

  • Demonstrate 90% alignment with the Ruscio Institutes editorial standards and brand voice on reviewed edits.
  • Independently edit 45 article drafts with high accuracy, clarity, and correct evidence interpretation.
  • Accurately verify and cite 100% of references using Lean Library and the assigned citation tool.
  • Confidently use Asana, Google Workspace, and all editorial tools with 1 workflow error or missed deadline.
  • Maintain an average editorial turnaround time of 3 business days per draft.
  • Hours & Compensation

  • $30-$45 / hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Part-time, 15-25 hours per week, consistently.
  • Independent contractor.
