Role Overview :

As a Parole Officer you must be able to gather and interpret information regarding the parolees living mental physical and emotional well-being. Consequence of error is moderate to high potentially involving the safety and security of other employees and parolees. This position covers Parole District 8 (South Bend).

Salary Statement :

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

  • Monitor compliance with parole program activities and administrative proficiency plan monitoring activities write reports and apply standards for quality control.
  • Analyze proposals for parole activities make funding decisions provide expert input to executive personnel and prepare documents for distribution.
  • Perform liaison functions relative to parole program areas act with task forces community groups and councils coordinate activities with other professional and / or state agencies or other divisions within agency and attend staff meetings and conferences.
  • Provide technical guidance clarify and interpret policies resolve problems plan and implement statewide policies and prepare correspondence as needed.
  • Provide research to develop implement monitor and evaluate parole system performance.
  • Maintain necessary statistical data required for reports audits public information and statewide coordination of program delivery system.
  • Recruit select onboard and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations measure progress provide ongoing feedback and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards deadlines and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and / or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What Youll Need for Success :

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) required.
  • Seven (7) years of full-time professional experience in correctional counseling criminology parole or probation work law enforcement social work or related required plus two (2) years full-time administrative managerial or supervisory experience in any of the above areas.
  • Must maintain firearm certification as well as carry a firearm in the performance of duties. This includes successful completion of Parole Academy as part of initial onboarding.
  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with policies and procedures of state government related specifically to corrections and parole. This may include social work parole casework and federal and state laws governing parole etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of policies of industrial governmental and community organizations available for use in aiding welfare of parolees.
  • Specialized knowledge of agency / program objectives regulations and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate complex theories and principles to a broad spectrum both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend analyze interpret and correlate technical material.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
  • Ability to delegate work set clear direction and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback provide guidance or corrective action coach and develop employee skillsets.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports :

    This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
