Maintenance Worker I - G114 Right of Way

Job Title

This position is responsible for maintaining the Right of Ways for the Urban Forestry & Beautification Division.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for maintaining the Right of Ways for the Urban Forestry & Beautification Division.

• Remove dirt and debris from roads.
• Carries tools, mixes concrete, sweeps street gutters; shovels gravel, snow, dirt, sand, rakes leaves, and cuts brush.
• Picks up litter and debris from right of way; cleans up spills by placing sand on them; removes trash and litter from curbs and gutters; rakes leaves and uses blowers; cuts grass.
• Directs traffic around the work site during road repairs, and spreads seeds, fertilizers, and mulch during landscaping.
• Loads and unloads trucks with proper materials.
• Maintains landscaping, mowing, planting, and seeding. Delivers concessions, chemicals, and miscellaneous equipment.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Picks up garbage and debris as assigned.
• Cleans truck and other equipment.
• Applies fertilizer; plants grass and shrubbery.
• Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the fleet yard.
• Removes trash from park grounds and buildings; cleans restrooms.
• Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations and work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship / internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must possess a valid driver's license. This position is required to supervise state inmate's labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

Physical Requirements

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required :

The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
