Physician - Inpatient Psychiatry

The Minneapolis VA HCC Mental Health ICC is seeking a physician who will provide ongoing psychiatric care to a vulnerable population of Veterans in a hospital setting and provides a full array of psycho-diagnostic, psychotherapeutic and pharmacological management.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay : Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Duties include : Majority of duties involve providing comprehensive psychiatric medical care on an inpatient unit for patients with dementia as part of a multidisciplinary team, including collaboration with the Neurology, REC and Mental Health Consult-Liaison services. Some outpatient duties may be assigned, but will be limited.

• Provides a full range of psychiatric interventions and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, cognitive impairment, and other psychiatric disorders.
• Responsible for identification of patient problems requiring consultation with other multidisciplinary medical center staff and making appropriate referrals.
• Assures that appropriate referrals to specialty programs, including community resources, are accomplished. This may include referrals to other Mental Health Programs (i.e., Partial Psychiatric Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Use, Neuropsychology, PTSD Clinic,

Mental Health Intensive Case Management, Homeless services, Vocational Rehabilitation).
