Building Inspector Positions

Building Inspector I - Under general supervision, performs skilled inspection work in securing compliance with established codes governing building trade. Work involves inspecting a variety of building installations for materials and safety precautions; interpretation, application and enforcement of rules and regulations relating to the construction of new buildings, the repair or alteration of existing buildings or structures; and interpretation, application and enforcement of rules and regulations for new and existing buildings and structures. Employee must interpret plans and specifications for proposed installation to ensure the codes and ordinances have been followed but must exercise independent judgment in applying these standards to a variety of work situations. May be required to perform inspections of existing construction for violations of adopted codes on behalf of Code Compliance, as well as attend and testify at Code Compliance Board Meetings. Work may also involve responding to man-made or natural disasters to assist in recovery efforts. Reports to the Senior Building Inspector.
