Summary

Using brazing and cutting equipment and various power and hand tools, the pipefitter performs a variety of shop and shipboard pipefitter trade functions. These functions include the repair and / or removal of old structural materials; the installation and fit up of new structural materials and complete fabrication of complex fluid system piping and piping hangers and supports. Works under direct supervision and performs related work as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Apply basic pipefitting and brazing processes to join, fabricate, or repair fluid system piping and associated hangers and supports.
• Proficient in bending pipe with multiple bends in a single run including 3-dimensional bends.
• Qualified to braze multiple base metal and filler metal combinations.
• Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, and specification requirements to determine materials and construction process required to fabricate component parts to develop a complete unit as designed.
• May lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rules, square, scribe or templates.
• Gives recommendation to Project Manager for corrections of problems.
• May position pieces be welded or brazed into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Knowledge of the processes and procedures necessary for the proper removal of old equipment and piping systems with minimal damage to surrounding materials.
• Maintain certification in the brazing procedure(s) as required by Quality Assurance Manager.
• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Participates in special projects as required.
