Position Summary
The Associate Director II, Investments is a member of the Investment Team. Under guidance from the Director, Investments, the Associate Director II will be responsible for specific responsibilities to execute AEF’s Investment Policy Statement (IPS) for an assigned portion of financial advisor and custodial relationships. In this capacity, the Associate Director II will be designated as an authorized signer, and function as client, for the investment accounts associated with the assigned firms and custodians. This position may interact initially, and regularly, with our financial advisors to conduct the annual investment account review process, review and approve investment allocations and trade recommendations and respond to other investment account related questions. This position will also work with the team to document and report on investment allocation and performance and to identify and help resolve other account oversight and maintenance related issues. Additionally, the position will assist the team in various organizational projects to meet the objectives of AEF’s investment strategy.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage the investment account opening process by verifying investment paperwork to ensure accuracy and alignment with AEF’s IPS and provide a required signature on all new accounts.
- Assess validity, accuracy, and reasonableness of fees.
- Analyze and review investment objectives, strategy and benchmarks provided by the financial advisor and document according to AEF established process for new and ongoing accounts.
- Oversee the documenting process of investment diversification at the individual fund level.
- Keep apprised of tax consequences of investment recommendations provided by the financial advisor to assess appropriateness of investments.
- Lead and conduct the annual investment account review process.
- Resolve escalated issues, leveraging expertise in servicing standards, internal policies and procedures, and data architecture to facilitate resolutions when an authorized signer is required.
- Oversee ongoing maintenance of the account including direct communication with custodians when authority is required, online access of investment accounts, and document changes discussed with the financial advisor according to AEF processes.
- Recommend and develop guidelines and procedures that will enhance practices, create a more consistent workflow, better client experience, and maintain high quality data.
- Exhibit an elevated level of professionalism and a client‑focused approach that is responsive, proactive, accountable, and reliable, adjusting communication appropriately for various levels and parties.
- Work in a dynamic team environment and participate in strategic initiatives, identifying and implementing best practices and operational efficiencies.
- Use independent judgment, interpretation, and problem‑solving skills to understand documentation information and request for IPS exceptions to successfully meet guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Investments.
Skills and Qualification
Bachelor’s degree required in finance, accounting or another related field.5 or more years of experience in financial services or the investment management industry.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships.Strong analysis and critical thinking skills with the ability to implement plans.Strong problem‑solving skills to be able to work with different types of investments.Working knowledge of current federal IRS rules and regulations governing donor‑advised funds preferred.Self‑motivated and goal‑oriented, with the ability to multi‑task, prioritize and work independently.Equal Employment Opportunity
