Key Responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Technician Decontaminate and clean surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies in accordance with established protocols and standards. Operate and maintain sterilizing equipment, such as autoclaves, sonic cleaners, and washer-disinfectors. Inspect, assemble, and package instruments and equipment for sterilization, ensuring proper functioning and readiness for clinical use. Monitor and record sterilization indicators, such as temperature and pressure levels, to ensure effective sterilization processes. Maintain accurate records of processed items, sterilization logs, and equipment maintenance activities. Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate instrument needs and ensure availability during surgical procedures. Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a sterile environment. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to sterilization and infection control. Conduct routine quality control checks to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and departmental policies. Assist with inventory management, stock rotation, and ordering of sterile processing supplies and equipment. Participate in ongoing education and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to sterile processing techniques.
