Lab Tech Aide – 2nd Shift
Location : Altavista, VA
Contract Length : 10 Months
Pay : $18.35 / hr.
Schedule : Monday–Friday | 3 : 00 PM – 11 : 30 PM
About the Role
Join a forensic toxicology laboratory environment where you’ll support sample preparation, testing, and equipment operation for GC / MS confirmation analysis. This is a great opportunity for science graduates looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience in a regulated setting.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and extract samples for GC / MS confirmation testing
- Safely operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
- Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents, controls, and calibrators per SOPs and regulatory guidelines
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Make sound technical decisions during testing and problem-solving
- Manage storage and restocking of laboratory supplies
- Follow all confidentiality, safety, and security protocols
- Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a clean, safe lab environment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related scienceMinimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience (for Technologist level consideration)Ability to work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detail with solid communication and organizational skillsProficient with computers; laboratory information system experience is a plusMust pass a standardized color vision screeningWillingness to work overtime or alternate shifts as neededPhysical & Workplace Requirements
Ability to lift / move up to 25 lbsFull body mobility with corrected vision and hearing as neededAbility to handle fast-paced or production-based demandsWork performed in a climate-controlled testing labPossible exposure to toxic or hazardous materialsAdditional Information
Occasional domestic travel may be required when subpoenaed for legal testimony or to visit other laboratory sitesMay be asked to work varying shifts or weekends based on operational needsEntry-level candidates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree may be considered
