Field Meter Technician I
Field Meter Technician I positions provide support to the Metro Atlanta area and other statewide locations for customer service, metering, distribution, and engineering departments. Responsibilities include installing, removing, and connecting / disconnecting AMI residential and small commercial meters, testing, maintaining, and repairing self-contained meter sockets, and ensuring compliance with GPC's Blue Book standards.

Maintain knowledge of GPC metering installation standards, safety regulations, environmental regulations, OSHA regulations, and practice safe work methods.Interact with customers daily to provide world-class customer service.Schedule installations, coordinate work with local forces and electrical contractors.Ensure compliance with GPC's Blue Book standards for meter installations.Maintain residential and small commercial meters and associated systems, perform inspections, repairs, testing, and verification of connections.Repair meter bases and related hazards in accordance with GPC standards.Perform audits of AMI system meters per PSC requirements.Perform additional duties for Customer Service, Metering, Distribution, and Engineering departments; includes SERP duty on storms.Job Requirements
High school diploma with basic electricity knowledge.Technical certificate or equivalent in Electronics, Electrical, or Telecommunications preferred.Must pass the CAST and / or additional SCS – HR test.Must complete 5-day GPC-MS-MSR Meter Service Order training.2 to 3 years of experience installing, repairing meter bases, and removing self-contained meters preferred.Demonstrate Southern Company "Southern Style" values.Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions year-round.Professional and courteous customer interaction.Good computer skills; obtain AMI and ARMS III system training.Valid driver's license with good driving record.Self-motivated with ability to work independently and with limited supervision.Flexibility and willingness to work overtime, storms, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and travel.Other Requirements
Pass the Construction and Skilled Trades test (CAST).Provide proper safety toe shoes or boots.Meet physical requirements : bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, hearing, overhead reaching, stooping, standing for long periods, outdoor work, heavy lifting.This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between GPC and IBEW Local 84. Starting pay for all hires is $4,378 per month ($25.25 per hour). Union membership is optional and the rate is non-negotiable.
