Role Overview : The Internal Affairs Investigator enforces the agency's program for detecting and deterring employee misconduct, policy violations, non-financial fraud, waste and abuse of state resources and assets, and other improprieties within the agency. Salary : The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800 per year, but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package. A Day in the Life : Responsibilities include :

  • Assist the Director of Internal Affairs with developing and implementing internal policies and procedures to ensure voluntary compliance with agency policies, applicable laws and regulations, and best practices.
  • Conduct confidential and thorough investigations of allegations of employee misconduct.
  • Liaise with DCS Executive and Regional leadership and Human Resources and other state agency personnel.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all DCS policies and practices that have an agency-wide applicability.
  • Maintain a database of investigations-related logs, evidence, transcripts, and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Ethics and Compliance department teams to develop and administer a regular, agency-wide training program emphasizing compliance with agency policies and procedures.

What You'll Need for Success : You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience of investigative work, preferably with a state, federal, or local government agency.
  • Advanced knowledge of interviewing and investigative techniques.
  • Strong ability to understand complex rules, laws, policies, and procedures and ability to apply and communicate the same.
  • Strong ability to exercise both tact and persuasion in dealing with agency personnel at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and conduct field investigations.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports : This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
