Accounting Director (Controller) – High‑Growth Fintech (Onsite – McLean, VA) A fast-growing fintech company is seeking an Accounting Director to build and scale its accounting function from the ground up. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will shape processes, systems, reporting, and team structure during a critical growth phase. This position is fully onsite Monday–Friday in McLean, VA. Relocation will be considered.
What You’ll Do - Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing accounting team.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close; ensure timely, accurate, GAAP-compliant results.
- Prepare and review financial statements, consolidations, schedules, and technical accounting analyses (including ASC 606).
- Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Evaluate and optimize accounting systems (ERP, billing, reconciliation tools); drive automation and process redesign.
- Partner with FP&A and cross-functional teams to ensure aligned financial reporting, accurate revenue recognition, and data integrity.
- Translate complex accounting concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-finance partners.
- Manage audit, tax filings, and compliance; serve as primary contact for external auditors and advisors.
- Lead strategic projects including ERP upgrades, workflow automation, data enhancements, and policy development.
What You’ll Bring - 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
- CPA required; Big 4 or similar public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, and technical accounting.
- Experience in SaaS or fintech — subscription billing, revenue models, and deferred revenue.
- Proven track record driving process improvements and system implementations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.
- Ownership mindset; proactive, solutions-oriented, comfortable navigating ambiguity.
- Collaborative leader who models accountability, optimism, and strategic judgment.
Nice to Have - Experience at a growth-stage, venture-backed tech company.
- Familiarity with SaaS metrics (ARR, MRR, CAC, LTV, retention, ARPU).
- ERP or close-management system implementation experience.
- Exposure to revenue operations or broader financial operations.
