Support Specialist - Substance Abuse- DOC Programs
Summary : Residential program for adult residents which are state inmates classified to a work release / substance abuse program. Staff is accountable to carry out assigned duties relating to the treatment and security of the residence and residents while following established protocols and procedures approved by NJAC and the NJ Department of Corrections. The employee in this classification is part of the treatment team and provides the primary clinical services to clients. The employee conducts risk / needs assessments and develops service plans for all clients assigned to their caseload, implementing those plans subject to review by the Treatment Team and / or approval of the Treatment Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Service : Ensure that each client is properly served and treatment is rendered in accordance with industry standards.
- Development and implementation of : client records (social histories, case summaries, etc.), comprehensive assessments and treatment plans within established timeframes, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and conflict resolution, monthly behavioral evaluations, interventions, lectures and presentations, participation in multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment plan reviews, aftercare plans, and related documentation.
- Other areas of focus which may include Alumni Services, Family Services Smoke Cessation, Orientation and HIV Services.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ensure contract violations are reported and addressed promptly.
- Review medication log for compliance.
- Accountability Duties : Real-time accounting for each resident in the facility and in the community; ensure safety and security of staff and residents; provide supervision and surveillance of residents, staff, and visitors; prevent contraband; conduct facility searches; conduct urine monitoring; monitor entry and egress of all residents and visitors.
- Plan : Complete required annual training; participate in daily / weekly meetings and semiannual trainings as scheduled.
- Organize : Ensure program activities operate within organizational policies and funder requirements; ensure compliance with relevant standards and licensure (ACA, PREA, DHMAS Licensure); meet internal and external standards and policies.
- Represent : Write program reports for management and funders; communicate with management and funders as outlined in funding agreements; prepare required reports and documentation for funders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience : Supervision responsibilities include residential clients.Education : A NJ LCADC or CADC or another licensed health professional working in alcohol and drug counseling within scope of duties.Clearances : Successfully pass criminal, education, substance use testing, and driver background checks; maintain background free of infractions; have access to an insured, registered vehicle; possess a valid drivers license.Knowledge, skills and abilities : Knowledge of client groups and issues related to the program area; understanding of social learning theory, cognitive-behavioral approaches, assessment and evaluation; competencies in training, group interaction, and mentoring; experience with addictive personalities and group dynamics for special needs populations.Proficiency in computers : Word processing, simple accounting, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet, client tracking software.Personal characteristics : Ethical behavior, relationship-building, effective communication, creativity / innovation, client-focus, teamwork, leadership, decision-making, organization, planning, problem solving.Working Conditions
Office and residential program environment; some evenings / weekends may be required to monitor program activities.On-call for after-hours emergencies; primary on-call rotation through case managers.Physical : may lift up to 25 lbs; ability to stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, use fingers, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; vision requirements include close vision.Compensation & Benefits
