The essential job functions include using and maintaining various types of tools and equipment, working effectively with other crew members, exercising good judgment to work safely, identifying and addressing problems, following safety regulations, operating a motor vehicle, setting up barricades, keeping equipment and work areas clean, reading and following written and oral job instructions, submitting written reports, communicating effectively, working outside in all kinds of weather, presenting a clean and well-groomed appearance, being subject to after-hours call-out for emergencies, cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment, performing as a responsible steward of the public trust, acting in a civil and respectful manner, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum job requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and a Texas driver's license within 60 days of hire. Preferred experience varies based on division assignment. Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses is required after hire.

The physical requirements include very high physical strength, various physical activities, and working in an outdoor environment. The job also involves call-out on a rotating basis.
