Water Meter Reader
Under general supervision, performs a variety of water utility customer service duties, including reading water meters and recording consumption and identifying water meter equipment problems.
Responsibilities include :
- Reading water meters on assigned routes; calculating water consumption; determining consistency of meter readings; reporting unusual readings to the supervisor; ensuring meters are functioning properly; inspecting visible plumbing for water leakage; reporting meter or equipment defects to supervisor; completing service orders for damaged or defective meters; ensuring accurate billing of water and sewer consumption to customer and to protect the City from any unnecessary losses.
- Providing water utility customer service including rereading meters when problems are identified or encountered; tactfully responding to citizen inquiries and complaints; ensuring vehicles are in working condition; maintaining equipment; assisting water / wastewater leak crews with flagging, blue staking, and semi-skilled laborer activities when needed.
- Operating a hand-held computer for reading water meters and entering or retrieving data on accounts; performing minor repair on equipment and reporting the need for major repair; performing assigned work under hazardous conditions, moving traffic, and adverse weather conditions; assisting contractors or water / wastewater crews with the installation of meters; thawing water lines and providing alternate sources of water to customers; raising meter barrels when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of meter reading and usage recording techniques and procedures.Knowledge of the City of Logan meter routes and the procedures for working them.Knowledge of meter reading schedules, billings, and related customer service oriented policies and procedures.Knowledge of the basic mechanics of water meter operation.Skill in interacting with co-workers, other City staff, and the public to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Skill in reading maps and understanding simple geography relating to City streets.Qualifications :
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must possess or be able to obtain a Water Distribution Grade IV Certificate from the State of Utah. Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions. Must be capable of lifting in excess of 75 pounds without adverse consequences. Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly. Must be able to reach 24 inches into a meter barrel and perform dexterous tasks.Benefits :
