At Vatn Systems, we specialize in designing and manufacturing advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) that push the boundaries of underwater exploration and defense technology. Our AUVs integrate complex electro-mechanical systems, high-precision sensors, and cutting-edge software to operate in challenging marine environments. We’re looking for skilled Robotics Technicians to join our growing team and play a key role in transitioning products from R&D to full-scale production.
As a Robotics Technician at Vatn Systems, you’ll be responsible for the hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems that power our AUVs. In addition to core assembly duties, this role will require supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, helping bridge the gap between engineering prototypes and scalable production processes.

Primary Responsibilities :
- Assemble electro-mechanical subsystems of AUVs, including propulsion systems, sensor s, pressure-resistant housings, and control boards
- Perform cable harnessing, wire crimping, and soldering (through-hole and surface mount) according to IPC standards
- Fabricate and install waterproof cable assemblies and pressure-rated connectors suitable for subsea environments
- Conduct functional testing of AUV components, including power distribution, propulsion systems, navigation sensors, and communication modules
- Support NPI efforts by providing feedback to engineering on design for manufacturability (DFM) and helping standardize assembly processes
- Assist in creating work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control checklists for new product lines
- Participate in pilot builds and help troubleshoot issues during the transition from R&D to production
- Perform leak testing, pressure testing, and calibration for subsea components
- Maintain accurate build documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and ESD protocols throughout all assembly processes
Required Qualifications :
4+ years of hands-on experience in electro-mechanical assembly, preferably in industries like marine robotics, aerospace, defense, or automotiveStrong proficiency in reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and assembly schematicsExperience working in NPI environments, transitioning products from engineering prototypes to production-ready buildsProficiency in soldering (IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001) and cable fabrication (IPC / WHMA-A-620)Familiarity with waterproofing techniques for subsea applications (potting, sealing, and overmolding)Hands-on experience with leak testing, pressure testing, and subsea sealing methodsCompetency with hand and power tools (torque wrenches, calipers, wire strippers) and test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, pressure testers)Ability to troubleshoot and solve issues in a fast-paced, iterative production environment.Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a shop-floor settingPreferred Qualifications :
Experience with AUVs, ROVs, or other marine robotic systemsIPC-A-610, IPC / WHMA-A-620, or J-STD-001 certificationsKnowledge of fiber optics, sonar systems, acoustic sensors, or marine navigation systemsFamiliarity with ERP / MRP systems and MES platforms for tracking work orders and materialsPrevious involvement in NPI programs with exposure to lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategiesUnderstanding of marine corrosion prevention and subsea sealing techniques
