Grant Accountant

About the Role

The Grant Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial reporting, compliance, and accounting functions related to grants and restricted funding. This role ensures timely and accurate tracking of grant expenditures, preparation of financial reports for funders, and compliance with all grant guidelines and organizational policies. The Grant Accountant will collaborate closely with program and development staff to align financial activity with grant requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare financial reports for grantors, management, and board use.

Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reimbursement requests.

Monitor grant budgets to ensure compliance with funding guidelines and organizational policies.

Maintain detailed grant records, including budgets, contracts, and award documentation.

Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accurate posting of grant-related transactions.

Collaborate with program managers and development staff to track grant spending and reporting requirements.

Assist with audits related to grant-funded projects by providing financial documentation and explanations.

Support continuous process improvement to strengthen grant accounting procedures and internal controls.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

2+ years of related accounting experience (nonprofit or grant accounting experience strongly preferred).

Knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with fund accounting principles.

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with systems such as Blackbaud, MIP, NetSuite, or QuickBooks preferred).

Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively across departments.

Excellent communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
