Job Description

We are seeking an experienced NoSQL and DB2 on premises and Public Cloud Database Engineer to join our dynamic DB Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our database systems in both on premise and public cloud environments. This role involves ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of our databases, including Db2 and various NoSQL databases.

As a Staff Database Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our database infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, solve complex problems, and contribute to the success of our global payment network. Your expertise in NoSQL (Cassandra or Redis Valkey) and DB2 technologies will be instrumental in driving innovation and ensuring the reliability and performance of our database systems.

This role will contribute to the design and architecture, solution engineering, and L3 support. You will be responsible for delivering database projects, performing problem analysis, and troubleshooting. Additionally, you will deploy and manage database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, utilizing cloud-native tools and services to enhance database performance and reliability.

Essential Functions

Design and Implementation : You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing database systems in public cloud environments, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of databases, including Db2 and various NoSQL databases.

Database Management : Deploy and manage database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, utilizing cloud-native tools and services to enhance database performance and reliability.

Automation and Scripting : Develop and maintain scripts for database automation tasks using Python, Ansible, or similar languages, and implement Infrastructure as Code practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible Tower or CloudFormation.

Backup and Recovery : Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure databases are protected against data loss and can be recovered in case of failure.

Documentation and Reporting : Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies, and provide regular reports on database performance, uptime, and other key metrics.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting : Set up and maintain database monitoring tools to ensure database health and performance and troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.

Technical Influence : Provide technical influence and subject matter expertise for the database team, tackling complex problems and identifying innovative solutions.

Collaboration : Work closely with development teams to ensure database designs align with application requirements, leading to more efficient and effective application development.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Work Hours : Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements : This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental / Physical Requirements : This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY :  The estimated salary range for this position is $124,300 to $198,600 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable).  Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
