SALARY RANGE : $85,000 to $95,000

A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.

Position Summary :

The Director of Development for Major Gifts for the College of Public Health, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Development for the College, is primarily responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donor prospects ($50,000 ) to the College and its departments.

The Director of Development for Major Gifts will secure funds for the College of Public Health by establishing long-term relationships with donors to help them fulfill their passions and interests through giving to the College of Public Health and Temple. They will continue to develop and cultivate the donor pipeline throughout the fiscal year.

The Director of Development for Major Gifts will secure funds for the College by managing a portfolio of assigned donors, representing the College and Temple University at large, and establishing connections between donors' philanthropic interests and the priorities of the College of Public Health and Temple. In addition, they will work closely with the gift planning group to develop a thoughtful and strategic plan for identifying and soliciting alumni interested in supporting the College through a planned gift.

The individual will interact with senior staff and faculty in the College as well as other colleagues throughout Temple University. They will work closely with Institutional Advancement central operations in aligning unit-based priorities with those of institutional leadership. This person must be a highly energetic, organized, flexible, and enthusiastic professional with a track record of closing major gifts, comfortable working autonomously, achieving performance-related metric goals, building donor relationships, working collaboratively and strategically with colleagues, and possessing a strong knowledge of the principles, ethics, and practices of successful fundraising.

Required Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least six years of successful, non-profit fundraising experience, or related experience in other sectors
  • Demonstrated success developing and sustaining relationships with key donors / prospects, clients, volunteer leadership and senior staff
  • Computer literacy including experience with donor management software such as Banner and Blackbaud
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Required Skills and Abilities :

  • Proven ability to cultivate and close five- and six-figure gifts
  • Ability to influence, lead, and inspire groups of individuals around shared goals and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate and work with high-wealth individuals
  • Demonstrated comfort in interacting with a diverse group of individuals both inside and outside of the University
  • Success in developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with key donors, volunteer leadership, senior staff, and colleagues
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, strategi-thinking skills, and intellectual curiosity
  • Willingness to take initiative and to learn new best practices
  • Must be able to travel (up to 25%) and work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Preferred Skills and Abilities :

  • Fundraising experience in a higher education setting, public health, or healthcare organization.
  • Experience with planned giving.
  • Experience fundraising for a capital campaign.
  • Persuasive writing / marketing experience.
  • Essential duties :

  • Collaborates with Central Institutional Advancement, including leadership giving, annual fund, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations and prospect management to build a school-centric program.
  • Support the Assistant Dean in managing a high-performing development program with measurable, aggressive, and attainable fundraising and programmatic goals in support of established priorities including the new building campaign and other priority initiatives.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be a successful advancement professional in a complex, sophisticated institutional advancement operation.
  • Persuasively and motivationally communicate the mission and vision of Temple University and the College of Public Health.
  • Cultivate, educate, and solicit prospects on behalf of the College, adhering to metrics regarding contacts, visits, solicitations, and gift closures with the goal of establishing a major gift portfolio of 100-125 donors and prospects.
  • Steward relationships with donors through all available channels.
  • Work with prospect research staff to identify prospective donors and alumni leaders.
  • Work with the Office of Planned Giving to market and secure planned gifts on behalf of the College.
  • Manage or participate in College and University fundraising activities.
  • This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
