Responsibilities Work in a Neuro ICU within a Magnet, teaching, Level I trauma hospital Primary patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, neuromuscular disorders, seizures, CNS infections, neurotrauma, and patients requiring ICP monitoring Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2 Manages specialized procedures including central line / arterial line management, ICP monitoring, CRRT, vasoactive medications, and hypothermia / hyperthermia management Specialized equipment includes EVDs and bolts Shifts are 3x12 hours, 7 : 00–19 : 30, with every other weekend required Expected to float within scope to other units or affiliated hospitals as needed Uses Epic EMR, Epic experience strongly preferred Responsibilities include management of complex neurocritical patients and performance of advanced neurocritical care procedures Team environment with opportunities for orientation and completion of specialized stroke education Navy blue scrubs required No on-call required Maximum 7 days of requested time off allowed per 13-week contract; no time off permitted during the first week of orientation Permanent former employees must wait 1 year before returning as travelers Standard travelers may work up to 18 months before a 3-month break is required Fit testing required; proper facial hair for fit testing is mandatory Night shift employees park for free; day / night rotation requires paid parking pass Requirements Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted) Minimum 2 years of recent Neuro ICU or critical care experience required Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required Must pass Relias EKG exam and demonstrate ability to interpret / manage dysrhythmias Complete 10 hours of stroke education during orientation (NIHSS may partially satisfy this requirement) No local candidates within a 75-mile radius First-time travelers are accepted Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-624106.
