Position Snapshot

Atwell is hiring a Project Engineer (Electrical) with energy-sector experience to support oil & natural gas, CO₂, hydrogen, and RNG pipeline/facility projects. You’ll lead electrical and instrumentation (E&I) engineering from concept through commissioning, coordinating multi-discipline teams and ensuring safe, compliant, constructible designs.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and support project teams on assigned tasks; provide technical guidance and recommend/implement client-requested design changes.
  • Serve as a liaison with clients, EPCs, vendors, and regulators; respond to inquiries and communicate scope, status, and risks.
  • Lead team performance: mentor designers/engineers, foster collaboration across civil/mechanical/structural/controls.
  • Maintain and share E&I best practices; build professional networks; participate in industry groups; collaborate with Atwell Energy teams.
  • Travel to offices, vendor facilities, and jobsites as needed.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or ability to obtain promptly per state requirements).

Day to Day

  • Act as the primary E&I engineering point of contact for pipeline and facility projects (mainline block/valve sites, M&R stations, compressor stations, terminals).
  • Develop and own E&I basis-of-design, one-lines/three-lines, load lists, area classification, grounding/lightning, cable/conduit schedules, raceway plans, interlocks, and I/O lists; coordinate P&IDs with process.
  • Produce and review equipment specifications and data sheets (switchgear, MCCs, transformers, generators, VFDs, UPS, heat trace, analyzers, instrumentation, PLC/SCADA/telecom).
  • Perform/calibrate studies (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, motor starting, cable ampacity/derating) using SKM/ETAP (or equivalent).
  • Manage external engineering partners and discipline interfaces; ensure deliverables meet project specs, codes, and client standards (NEC/NFPA 70 & 70E, IEEE, API, ISA, ASME B31.3, company standards).
  • Support procurement (RFP packages, vendor bid evaluations, technical clarifications) and construction/commissioning (RFIs, submittals, FAT/SAT, punchlist, startup/energization plans).
  • Track progress vs. milestones, report performance, and integrate with Development, Engineering, Permitting, GIS, and Land groups to keep scope/schedule/budget on plan.
  • Prepare sealed design packages, calculations, and QA/QC documentation; maintain organized project files and change control.

Preferred Tools & Experience

  • SKM Power Tools or ETAP; AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical; Bluebeam; MS Project/Primavera (read-only); PLC/RTU programming exposure a plus.
  • Field experience supporting installation, testing, and commissioning in operating facilities.
  • Consulting/EPC background with owner standards
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
