With offices in Modesto, CA and Meridian, ID, we are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Estimator who can confidently manage the estimating process across a diverse portfolio of projects.

Position Summary

As a Fire Sprinkler Estimator at J.R. Wagner, you'll be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for fire sprinkler systems across commercial, residential, and industrial applications. You'll work closely with clients, general contractors, engineers, and internal teams to ensure high-quality proposals that align with both project requirements and code compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze blueprints, specifications, and RFP documents to prepare comprehensive cost estimates

• Perform material and labor takeoffs for fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge)
• Handle estimating for a full range of project sizes, including high-profile, complex builds
• Coordinate with internal project managers, design teams, and field staff
• Attend job walks and pre-bid meetings as needed in the Modesto or Meridian area
• Maintain organized records of bids, proposals, and client correspondence
• Interface with vendors and subcontractors to solicit and verify pricing

Requirements

Experience & Knowledge 3–5+ years of experience in fire sprinkler estimating

Familiarity with NFPA standards (especially NFPA 13, 14, 20) and local codes

Experience estimating both plan / spec and design-build projects

Strong knowledge of construction drawings, bid documents, and submittal processes

Technical Skills

Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., AutoSPRINK, QuoteSoft, Trimble, or equivalent)

Strong Microsoft Excel skills for cost breakdowns and analysis

Accurate and efficient takeoff and pricing abilities

Soft Skills

Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, timely estimates

Preferred Qualifications

NICET Level II or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout

Degree or coursework in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field

Experience with design-build and negotiated work is a plus
