Summary
AC Transit is currently seeking candidates for the position of Attorney III. Under general direction, this position performs a broad range of complex professional legal work on behalf of the District, with a primary focus on defending the District in personal injury lawsuits.
This is the fully experienced level classification and third-level in the flexibly staffed Attorney series. Performs professional legal work for a broader range of increasingly complex legal matters and assists the General Counsel in implementing the Districts legal and risk management programs with a greater degree of independence. Responsible for providing counsel on and appropriate responses to legal actions including preparation and / or review of legal documents, provision of legal advocacy, and legal representation; acts as a legal resource on a variety of legal matters. Performs work that is varied, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment to ensure efficient and effective litigation and / or resolution of legal matters. This is an unrepresented at-will classification.

Representative Functions
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited school of law.
Experience : Five (5) years of recent and verifiable experience as a practicing attorney in civil or government law; demonstrated trial experience including at least two (2) years that involved responsibilities at a level equivalent to the Districts classification of Attorney II.
License and Certification(s) : Possession of an active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
Special Requirements : (1) Must be able to travel throughout the Bay Area and within subpoena distance for trials, hearings, depositions, and arbitrations. (2) Must be able to attend meetings outside of regular business hours.
Additional Information
Physical Requirements : Must maintain the physical condition necessary to : (1) perform tasks in an office setting operating a personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment; and (2) possess physical mobility in order to attend off-site trials, hearings, negotiations, and to attend external meetings and events.

Pension : All AC Transit employees participate in a lifetime defined benefit pension. All employees hired on or after January 1, 2020, may be in the Districts Tier II pension plan covered by the Public Employees Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA). As such, he / she may be required to contribute a small portion of annual income towards the cost of his / hers District pension.

The Alameda Contra Costa Transit District has established the goal of a 100 percent drug and alcohol-free workplace.
