Overview

The National Grocers Association (NGA) is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale community grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry. An independent retailer is a privately owned or controlled food retail company operating a variety of formats. The NGA Foundation is the nonprofit arm of NGA dedicated to cultivating and strengthening the independent grocery industrys workforce. Through resources, educational opportunities, and building networks the Foundation empowers the next generation of grocery professionals while supporting current industry leaders. By investing in talent, fostering innovation, and promoting career growth, the NGA Foundation ensures that independent grocers remain vital pillars of the communities they serve.

Position Summary

The NGA Foundation is seeking a Grants Manager to oversee the data and processes of a portfolio of food access grants. These grants provide technical assistance on nutrition incentive projects (GusNIP), SNAP Online (SEMTAC), and the Healthy Food Financing Initiative (HFFI). The Grants Manager will be responsible for handling grant data and reporting, managing a team of consultant subject matter experts, and ensuring that grant and overall Foundation processes are aligned. They will build relationships with funders and a diverse set of partners to ensure the success of the work. If in the DC area this role is hybrid, reporting to the office three days a week but role is open to remote individuals. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated and flexible, with experience managing deliverables across multiple projects, enhancing database workflows and supporting budget and excel management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and update existing grant data and reporting processes, particularly providing individual grant reports and streamlining collective grant data for Foundation reporting.
  • Manage a team of subject matter experts in their support of grocers and development of resources for grant programs.
  • Develop and execute webinars and presentations for grocers.
  • Represent grants at industry events across the country.
  • As grocers interact with various grants, create and manage the pipeline of grocers to other NGA and Foundation program opportunities.
  • Support NGA events that require all-staff such as NGA Show and the Executive Conference.
  • Coordinate with funders and partners leading meetings and collaborating to reach deliverables.
  • Support opportunities for additional grants and fundraising to broaden the assistance the Foundation provides for grocers.
  • Support the Group Director in managing grant budgets.
  • Travel is estimated at 20% for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • Process oriented
  • Enjoys working with data in excel, Monday.com, Microsoft Dynamics, and / or CRM platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • A focus on continuous improvement and open to feedback and guidance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, Microsoft Teams, survey monkey, CRM systems.
  • Requires bachelors degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience in grant management, particularly food access grants.
  • Preferred experience / interest in food industry / grocery
  • Salary starting at $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
