Responsibilities
- Co-teach and mentor a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics team under the head coach; you will be in charge of your own team of 3-6 students.
- Support the design, build, and programming of autonomous LEGO robots; guide students through mechanical and coding challenges without simply giving answers.
- Help prepare and participate in after-school practice sessions and, when applicable, after-school and weekend competitions.
- Contribute to fostering teamwork, problem-solving, gracious professionalism, and safe and organized project management.
Time Commitment / Start Date
Week of September 22 – October 13 : 2 days per week after school (4–6 pm).
Week of October 20 – December 6 (estimated) : 4 days per week after school (Monday–Thursday, 4–6 pm); some Fridays; some after-school / weekend competitions.
State Robotics Tournament in Casper date (likely Saturday, December 6; date TBA).
Qualifications / Skills
STEM problem-solving skills; ability to troubleshoot and guide students through mechanical or coding challenges.Patience; supportive, student-centered mentoring.Collaboration and teamwork with the head coach, students, and volunteers.Strong communication skills; ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt explanations to different learning styles.Organizational skills for materials, parts, and team tasks; time management to balance activities.Creativity; encouragement of innovative robot designs and project ideas.Mentoring and encouragement; building student confidence and celebrating effort.Team-building, adaptability, and a positive approach to group dynamics.Core values modeling : discovery, inclusion, and gracious professionalism.Optional but recommended : basic LEGO robotics knowledge or coding skills (LEGO SPIKE Prime or EV3); open until filled.About the Program
Middle School FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics is a hands-on STEM program where students design, build, and program autonomous LEGO robots to complete themed missions on a competition field. Teams research and present an innovative solution related to the season's theme while learning teamwork and problem-solving. You will work with a head coach and fellow assistant coaches.
