Job description

Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.

SUMMARY:

The major task of the job is to provide leadership around student-focused outcomes within the educational setting. The School Psychologist's priority is to perform high-quality student evaluations embedded within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and Kent ISD guidance. Additionally, the school psychologist will serve as a key team member in consulting with school staff to ensure students remain in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all state and federal guidelines and timelines for the service and assessment of children.
  • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team (MET) and assist in the comprehensive assessment of students suspected of having a disability or redetermining special education eligibility as outlined in IDEA regulations, the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and Kent ISD guidelines.
  • Serve as a member of the Individual Educational Planning (IEP) Team to assist in the determination of eligibility, placement, and development of the Individualized Educational Plan.
  • Administers and interprets norm-referenced, standardized assessments, curriculum-based measurements, and criterion-referenced tests.
  • Interpret, explain and present all psychological assessment data in a meaningful and understandable manner, to necessary personnel such as parents, teachers and administrators.
  • Support in identifying and using research-based instructional practices.
  • Assist in modifying instructional practices to make them more appropriate to the social and academic needs of students with diverse backgrounds and characteristics.
  • Participate in Child Find and Child Study procedures for early identification and intervention for learning, social and emotional difficulties in the pre-assessment of students suspected of being disabled.
  • Provide consultation and planning for effective classroom organization, social structures, implementation of effective teaching techniques and development of appropriate educational plans and behavior management programs.
  • Compile and maintain records, written reports, and other documentation for students assigned to the caseload or as a part of a response to intervention assessment.
  • Work as a team member with instructional staff and parents/ guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills both written and oral as well as excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member with a wide range of school age children.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and all in-services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Poses one of the following in accordance with MDE and MARSE requirements:

Preliminary School Psychologist Certificate
  • (R 380.204 & 380.205) Valid for 3 years and available to individuals who meet the following requirements:
    • Complete a graduate degree in an approved school psychology certification program (no less than 45 semester credit hours); and
    • Complete a 600 clock-hour, supervised practicum in school psychology; and
    • Possess a valid out-of-state school psychologist certificate or license if the school psychologist program was completed in another state.
School Psychologist Certificate
  • (R 380.206) Valid for 5 years and available to individuals who meet the following requirements:
    • Possess a current or expired Preliminary School Psychologist Certificate; and
    • Complete a state-approved specialist-level degree or the equivalent (no less than 60 semester credit hours) in school psychology with a 1200 clock-hour internship from an Educator Preparation Institution (EPI).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Michigan School Psychologist certificate or a preliminary certificate according to MDE guidelines.

COMPENSATION: In accordance with the master agreement between Comstock Park Educational Employees Association and the Comstock Park Board of Education.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
