Job description

Southeastern Rheumatology Alliance is looking for an experience lab information system technician to support our lab located in Charleston, South Carolina. The LIS Technician supports the daily operations, maintenance, and optimization of the Orchard Laboratory Information System to ensure accurate, timely, and secure handling of laboratory data. This role serves as a bridge between the laboratory and IT, troubleshooting system issues, managing user access, assisting with new provider onboarding, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain, monitor, and support the Laboratory Information System, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity.
  • Assist in setting up new users, configuring permissions, and maintaining accurate user profiles.
  • Troubleshoot LIS issues, including connectivity problems between laboratory instruments and the system.
  • Collaborate with IT and laboratory staff to resolve technical and operational issues quickly.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of LIS protocols, workflows, and upgrades.
  • Perform regular system audits and quality checks to ensure accuracy of patient results and compliance with CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and other applicable standards.
  • Provide staff training on LIS use, best practices, and new features.
  • Support integration and interface processes with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other healthcare systems.
  • Document all support requests, resolutions, and system changes in accordance with laboratory policies.
  • Participate in on-call rotation or after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications :

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with LIS systems and especially Orchard LIS in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory workflows, terminology, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting technical issues and understanding system interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Physical & Work Requirements :

  • Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
  • May require occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. and extended periods of computer use.
