Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Service Manager and with little or no supervision, the Technician 1 performs duties in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field. Work is completed in a safe, efficient, and capable manner with emphasis on minimizing labor hours and avoiding rework. The Technician 1 is required to complete work within the time frame and standards established by HPC.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems in Caterpillar, allied products, and Ag & Turf and industrial products serviced by the service department.
  • Provides warranty recommendations and prepares reports when performing warranty service jobs.
  • Performs minor welding, fabrication, plumbing, and DC electrical repairs.
  • Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
  • Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Recommends actions to correct failures or problems.
  • Adheres to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains professional relationships with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • PC skills.
  • Forklift certification or ability to be certified within 60 days.
  • Own hand tools suitable to perform the work.
  • At least 5 years of experience preferred.

    • Physical Demands

  • Walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, standing, climbing, and other daily activities typical of a service technician role.
  • Operational use of hands, arms, and fine motor skills for tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. daily with frequent exertion.

    • Environment

  • Noise : Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  • Temp / Weather : Works outside and in a shop with varying temperatures.
  • Exposure : May be exposed to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
