SUD Counselor

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients as assigned
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with OASAS regulations
• Deliver client-centered care by developing and reviewing Recovery Care Plans and Discharge Plans
• Assist with client intake, orientation, and case management services
• Respond effectively to crisis situations including intoxication, psychiatric issues, or suicidal ideation
• Coordinate care with internal and external service providers; conduct outreach to community resources and absent clients
• Support program goals and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in utilization review processes and respond to insurance-related requests as required
• Ensure compliance with confidentiality laws and ethical standards, including adherence to NYS CFR 42
• Engage and involve family members early in the treatment process when appropriate
• Conduct clinical documentation (notes, assessments, plans, summaries) accurately and on schedule
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and committee assignments as needed
• Assist in achieving departmental benchmarks for successful completion, engagement, and reduced drop-out rates
• Support the agency's mission and participate in team coverage and optional programming when needed
