JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Crops Technician is to support our crop production operations. This role is responsible for repairs, setup, and operation of planters, planting equipment, and associated technology. After planting, the role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate application of fertilizers and other crop inputs using ground application equipment. The ideal candidate will bring agronomic knowledge to ensure optimal timing, dosage, and effectiveness of all applications, contributing to the overall health and productivity of our crops.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
Strategic and tactical work for which this position is accountable :
- Operate and maintain planting, fertilizer, and chemical application equipment and machinery in accordance with safety and performance standards.
- Accurately apply seed and crop inputs according to agronomic recommendations and field prescriptions.
- Use GPS, mapping software, and rate controllers to ensure precise application.
- Collaborate with agronomists and farm management to interpret soil tests, crop nutrient needs, and weather conditions.
- Monitor field conditions and report any issues with pests, diseases, or deficiencies.
- Perform pre- and post-application inspections and calibrations of equipment.
- Maintain accurate planting and application records in compliance with company policies and agricultural regulations.
- Assist in inventory management of seed and crop input materials.
- Follow all environmental and safety guidelines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Capabilities and traits essential to perform satisfactorily
Knowledge of seed, fertilizer types, crop nutrient requirements, and integrated pest management.Familiarity with a variety of crop types and regional agronomic practices.Ability to read and follow field maps, application rates, and agronomic recommendations.Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.Valid driver's license required; CDL-A and applicator’s license preferred (or willingness to obtain).Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.Agricultural equipment operation and maintenance skills; knowledge of crop technological tools. Must be familiar with troubleshooting equipment / process problems and proposing solutions.Strong communication, organizational skills, team-building, and collaboration skills.Ability to work long hours during peak seasons and perform physical tasks outdoors.Experience with precision agriculture technology (e.g., GPS-guided sprayers, field mapping software).EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).3–5 years of hands-on experience operating agricultural spraying equipment or similar machinery.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor agricultural setting. Employees must be able to :
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.Lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally more with assistance.Perform repetitive tasks such as planting, harvesting, and packing.Use hands and fingers to safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery.Work long hours in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak seasons, which may include weekends and holidays.Employees will be exposed to :
