The Patient Accounts Associate is responsible for full-scope medical, dental, and mental health billing functions to include Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurance billing, understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding, resubmission of denied claims, posting payments, batching claims, and communication with patients concerning as follow-up to any questions.
- Assist with posting of charges into practice management software.
- Assist with generating third-party claims, including secondary claims.
- Assist with posting all insurance correspondence received to include payments, adjustments, and denials.
- Monitor the Aged Trial Balance and investigate high and / or old balances with prompt steps to resolve problems.
- Work collaboratively with front office staff to improve patient account activity.
- Responsible for all aspects of patient payment plans, to include set-up and non-payment follow-up.
- Conduct follow-up on patient questions and interact with patients in a position and professional manner, being sensitive in approach to discussing personal financial matters.
- Unpaid self-pay balances over $25 are sent to collections with no payment after 120 days.
- Assist on an as-needed basis with external reporting requirements, to include the annual audit of the finance statements, cost reports, and budgets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
