Job description

About the position : In this position the successful candidate will prepare detailed estimates for projects based on the drawings and specifications related to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades. You will also provide assistance to the Project Managers and Superintendents as it relates to bidding, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction activities.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Review project specifications, architectural drawings and other relevant documents to accurately assess the scope of work required for potential projects.
  • Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment and other associated expenses.
  • Source and maintain relationships with reliable vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials and ensure timely delivery.
  • Perform precise quantity take-offs of building materials and components to determine accurate project costs.
  • Collaborate with Operations and our clients to suggest value engineering options that optimize costs without compromising quality.
  • Prepare comprehensive bid packages, ensuring all relevant details and cost breakdowns are clearly presented.
  • Submit accurate and timely proposals to clients, ensuring compliance with project requirements and adhering to bid deadlines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers to ensure specifications, installation requirements, and other regulations are met throughout the length of the project.
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual costs, identifying areas for improvement and cost-saving efficiency.
  • Analyze and share key metrics with management.
  • Collaborate and assist with Operations to ensure seamless completion of projects.
  • Assist with inventory management and processes.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support overall business objectives.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficient and able to quickly pick up technology and software.
  • Detail oriented and incredibly organized with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Education and Experience :

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Estimating or related roles in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of material and processes in the construction industry is ideal.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings and construction documents.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the job site in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
