Position Overview
The Industrial Coatings Technician will oversee the coatings department in our modular construction operations. This role is hands-on and will serve as the company’s subject matter expert in coatings. The Technician will be responsible for all aspects of coating application and inspection, including materials management, quality, setup, training, and oversight of daily activities. The ideal candidate will be CIP certified through AMPP and will ensure that coating work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project requirements and the production schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example in the coatings department, performing hands-on coating preparation and application as needed.
- Serve as the coatings subject matter expert, providing guidance on materials, processes, and best practices.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily coatings activities to meet project deadlines.
- Manage coatings materials and supplies, ensuring proper storage, handling, and staging for production.
- Inspect surface preparation and coating application to verify compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
- Provide training and mentoring to team members in coating techniques, safety practices, and quality expectations.
- Set up and maintain equipment required for coatings work (spray systems, booths, PPE, etc.).
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production management to address coating-related issues or requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of coating processes, inspections, and compliance records.
- Enforce safety protocols and promote a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance coating performance.
Requirements
Knowledge and Expertise
CIP Certification through AMPP (required).Strong technical knowledge of industrial coatings, surface preparation, and application methods.Hands-on experience with coating systems, spray equipment, and material handling.Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and coating standards.Understanding of quality assurance processes, inspection methods, and documentation requirements.Familiarity with safety standards and environmental regulations related to coatings.Leadership skills with the ability to direct, train, and support team members in a working-lead capacity.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in coatings or related field preferred.CIP certification through AMPP (mandatory).Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial coatings, with leadership or lead technician responsibilities preferred.Experience in construction, modular construction, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Effective communication skills in both technical and team-oriented settings.Benefits
