The Section of General Academic Pediatrics
and Adolescent Medicine at Wake Forest University School of
Medicine is seeking a collaborative, innovative physician leader to
guide a dynamic and accomplished team. Our section includes 25
pediatricians across all ranks, 5 advanced practice providers
(APPs), and several cross-appointed PhD researchers. Faculty
members are actively engaged in clinical care, research, education,
quality improvement, advocacy, and community outreach. Many hold
leadership roles in national organizations such as the AAP, NC AAP
Chapter, and APA.
Clinical Environment :
We provide care in a community-based
pediatric primary care clinic, certified as a patient-centered
medical home serving an under-resourced population. The clinic is
also the primary teaching site for our pediatric residency program.
Our providers staff the newborn nursery in a state-of-the-art labor
and delivery suite and mother-baby unit opened in 2019.
Research Focus Areas :
Our team leads impactful research in
health-related social needs, including food insecurity, obesity
prevention and treatment, early childhood development, literacy and
school readiness, early relational health, biomedical informatics,
and vaccinations.
Position Summary
The Section Head plays a vital
leadership role, overseeing clinical, academic, and administrative
functions. This position requires a balance of strategic vision,
operational management, and mentorship to foster excellence across
all missions.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership &
Professionalism
Serve as a
role model of professionalism and academic excellence.
Promote scholarly success in clinical care,
research, education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies
and regulatory standards.
General & Financial Management
Oversee section finances,
including revenue and expense management.
Collaborate with administrative staff to enhance financial
performance.
Define and execute short- and
long-term strategic goals.
Clinical Service Line Oversight
Ensure high-quality,
evidence-based care and accurate documentation.
Monitor compliance metrics and implement
improvement plans.
Collaborate across
departments to optimize patient safety and care delivery.
Academic Mission
Support faculty engagement
in research, advocacy, and quality improvement.
Facilitate educational opportunities for
learners in partnership with the Vice Chair for Education.
Align section activities with UME and GME
best practices.
Provide oversight of the
Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship.
Personnel Management
Foster a culture of
equity, inclusion, wellness, and professional growth.
Set clear expectations and performance
benchmarks.
Support faculty promotion and
tenure processes.
Recruit and retain
high-quality faculty and APPs.
Manage
staffing and call schedules to ensure coverage and balance.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree.
Board certification in Pediatrics and
Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
Demonstrated
leadership experience in an academic medical setting.
Strong financial and operational management
skills.
Excellent communication and
interpersonal abilities.
