Summary
This job is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the HIM Department and for serving as a daily advocate for the customers served by the HIM department, and for overseeing the coordination of service delivery.
Responsibilities
Knowledge of medical record practice, policies and procedures, general medical records maintenance, and knowledge of applicable TJC standards, as well as federal and state laws and regulations.
The ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person, as well as demonstration of good written and verbal communication skills.
Evaluates the impact of innovations and changes in programs, policies and procedures.
Recommends new and revised procedures to ensure the proper collection and maintenance of medical information to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
Manage workflow among all staff to ensure maximum productivity and quality standards are met.
Prioritizes work to ensure completion of HIM functions.
Adjusts work assignments as needed to cover peak periods, leave and vacancies.
Promotes a positive self image with emphasis on customer service by treating patients, co-workers, and organizational personnel with courtesy and respect.
Responds to customer needs in a positive and efficient manner.
Coordinate and direct the activities of the assigned HIM staff to ensure accurate, timely completion of work according to pre-determined goals and standards.
Assist with the development and implementation of business plans, policies and procedures and job descriptions.
Serve as a liaison with the many customers of the HIM Department.
Communicate with and training doctors and staff about best practices for gathering and inputting data.
Performing regular audits to ensure that all processes, data storage, and dissemination practices meet with all state and federal guidelines as well as those set by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Tracking information to recognize trends or problem areas.
Manages time / attendance, schedules and participates in PEAC process for area of responsibility.
Monitors accuracy, efficiency, and productivity of all personnel to ensure compliance with departmental performance standards.
Participates in troubleshooting, testing, and upgrades of electronic medical record applications in area of responsibility.
Participates in developing policies / procedures / guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines to minimize risk for the organization.
Sets expectations and allocates work utilizing KPIs to drive productivity and efficiency.
Coaches employees in performance improvement, conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and coordination of employee schedules for adequate coverage.
Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge in the profession / position.
Provides leadership for process improvement and redesign to improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs, and / or meet departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
Interviews, assesses, and hires new HIM personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned.
How You'll Be Successful
Other information : WORK EXPERIENCE At least 5 years Supervisory experience, project management, or coding / data integrity - required EDUCATION Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare profession - required LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Registration as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or comparable certificate Upon Hire - required
